2020 Season Review | CT Wedding Photographer

I don't even know where to begin. 2020 was totally crazy, to the point that it doesn't even feel like just one year, more like 5 years. SO MUCH HAPPENED. A pandemic, an election, a huge BLM movement, remember when murder hornets were supposed to be a thing? There are things I'm missing, I know there are, but the real point of this post is to reflect on what 2020 was like for me and my clients in my business, which was its own roller coaster of emotions.

Engagements

I had a pretty light year this year in terms of engagements. Because of the pandemic there was a lot of hesitancy to book future weddings, so fewer bookings for the future meant less people having their engagement photos taken with me. But the four engagement sessions I had were awesome! I got to visit some familiar locations and explore new ones, and of course my favorite part of engagement sessions is getting to build a deeper connection with my client couples (and their dogs!)

Weddings

To say that 2020 was a complicated year for weddings would be an understatement. The year started off really great! I had two February weddings right before the pandemic hit really hard in the States and started throwing my client couples' world into chaos.

But then March happened and at the start of April the wedding industry came to a screeching halt. I had originally had 4 weddings planned for April and May that were either postponed to later in 2020 or to 2021. As the pandemic continued to cause gathering restrictions, more of my couples for the summer and fall of 2020 postponed to 2021 or cancelled their weddings while others decided to redesign their wedding to fit within the guidelines for gatherings set forth by the state. I went from having 19 weddings on my 2020 calendar to only 7 full weddings and 2 elopements from couples who postponed to 2021. It still stings a little to write that. If I didn't have such amazing clients I don't know how I would have gotten through - you all are seriously sanity savers and I love being a part of your lives so much.

Family Sessions

I also had the pleasure of photographing three family sessions this year. One session was a ten year anniversary session for one of my past clients who was one of the very first clients I had ever booked! And another was a client couple who had originally booked me for a 2019 wedding who had postponed to 2020 after becoming pregnant and then, well.... life happens, lol.

In other news...

Our little family has grown! I'm excited to announce that this year we decided to add a dog to our family! He's an American Water Spaniel mix named Bernie Spaniel and we're so excited to finally have a dog in our lives since CJ and I both love dogs so much.

I'm also looking forward to the prospect that 2021 is going to be a better year. Even if we're still dealing with the pandemic, we're all much better equipped for it with knowledge and how to plan around the challenges it presents. I've also decided I want to take a serious approach to including planning services in my business. I planned and re-planned weddings with my couples HARD this year and I really enjoyed that process and how much closer it brought me to some of my client couples.

So thank you again to all of my clients, new and old, for supporting my business this year and allowing me into these special moments of your lives. Your trust in me and the support you've given me in this very trying year has been invaluable to me and words really cannot do justice how much it means to me.
