Dirty Dancing fans and Indie brides, meet your new favorite Connecticut wedding venue.
Nestled in the woods of Voluntown CT, basically a stone's throw from Rhode Island, is the Tamarack Lodge and its campgrounds. I was introduced to this venue and its awesome staff when I photographed Autumn & Eric's masquerade wedding this past October, and I immediately fell in love, despite the dreary weather I experienced on both my visits.
Tamarack Lodge has four different ceremony locations, two of them featured in the images above. Down a short trail through the forest, there's this fabulous teepee with the wooden benches laid out. Behind the benches, there is the large campfire ring and a running stream, making this location a dual-option ceremony site. In the center of the main campground, surrounded by all the little cabins, there's the gorgeous archway with the bell, which is the site that first caught my attention. Across from that there is a cabin-like platform shelter nestled under some large trees.
The main lodge houses the restaurant, bar and banquet hall. There's a cute arbor covered patio area that's perfect for an outdoor cocktail hour, and the 3 different dining rooms or banquet room can accommodate weddings up to 110 guests. On the occasion that I was there, one of the dining rooms had been converted into the ceremony room- the built in shelves made for a perfect alter display with flower garlands and lanterns.
If a rustic-chic vibe is what you're looking for in your wedding venue, Tamarack is the perfect fit. But their appeal doesn't stop at style alone. In addition to beautiful grounds and the lodge, Tamarack is a full weekend retreat for you and your guests. It's history is as a wagon wheel mill that was turned into a family campground, and the new owners are returning it to it's former glory by restoring all the little cabins and reviving some of the activities that used to go on there. When you walk through the woods, you will arrive at Beach Pond where you can go swimming, and there are fun lawn games and nighttime bonfires for you and your guests.
In the main lodge, you can still see the history of the mill in the massive wheel-pulleys and rough-hewn beams in the ceiling, next to the beautiful stone fireplace. Right now, there are 8 of the glamping cabin rooms fully restored, with more on the way. In addition to these cabins, there are 3 different AirBNB rooms in the main house with slightly more modern amenities.
Something else that's really awesome about this venue is that On The Spot Catering has decided to make their home here as the exclusive in-house caterer. This caterer is a vendor I've worked with before for a wedding in 2017 and their food was so AH-mazing I already had them added to my Vendor Love list before I even had a Vendor Love list. So when I was planning this blog post and heard that news, it was like, "Yaassss!" Best of all, if you choose to have your wedding at Tamarack Lodge, I offer all couples booked there 10% off of my wedding photography packages.
